What is text-to-give and how does it work for churches?+
Text-to-give is a mobile donation method where donors give by texting a dollar amount to a dedicated phone number — no app, no website, no login required. For example, a donor texts "100" to your church's giving number and receives a secure payment link by reply. After registering their card once, every future gift is completed entirely by text. Txt2Give handles the entire flow, from the initial text through Stripe payment processing and automatic donation receipts.
Is Txt2Give actually free? What's the catch?+
There's no setup fee and no contract either way, and you choose how the platform gets paid. On the Donor-Supported Plan, there's no monthly fee — donors are asked for a 15% tip, then a 5% tip if they decline the first ask. Most donors add one or the other. If they decline both, Txt2Give collects 1% of that gift at the time of deposit; any tipped gift carries no platform fee. If you'd rather never show donors a tip prompt, the Flat Rate Plan is $25/month + 1% per gift, with a 14-day free trial (a credit card is required to start). Either way, Stripe's standard processing rate — 2.3% + $0.30 per transaction for verified nonprofits and churches — always applies.
Do donors need to download an app to give by text?+
No. Donors give entirely through their phone's built-in messaging app — the same app they use every day. There's nothing to download, no account to create, and no login required. First-time donors register their payment info once via a secure link sent by reply text. After that, every future donation is completed by text message alone.
How quickly can our church start accepting text donations?+
Most churches are live and accepting donations within 10 minutes of signing up. You'll create a Txt2Give account and connect your Stripe account (you'll need your EIN, bank account info, and a government ID for Stripe's one-time verification) — and you're ready. A default system keyword is assigned automatically so donors can start giving immediately. Our US-based support team is available by phone if you need help at any step. The first deposit takes 7 business days for Stripe's initial verification — after that, deposits arrive within 2 business days.
Can donors set up recurring giving by text?+
Yes. Donors can set up weekly or monthly recurring gifts during the text giving flow — no separate form or website visit required. Recurring giving is included in every Txt2Give account at no extra charge. To cancel a recurring gift, donors text the word END. To update payment info or giving amount, donors text the word UPDATE and receive a secure link to a webpage where they can log in and make changes.
Does Txt2Give work for nonprofits, or just churches?+
Txt2Give is built for both churches and nonprofits of any type — not just 501(c)(3)s. The platform, plans, and features are identical for both — choose the Donor-Supported Plan (no monthly fee; 1% on gifts where the donor declines to tip) or the Flat Rate Plan ($25/month + 1%, 14-day free trial), plus the same Stripe nonprofit processing rate of 2.3% + $0.30.
